According to a recent article (seacoast online), citizens are protesting the trapping and killing of raccoon by the USDA on the Rachel Carson Federal Wildlife Refuge. They claim these actions are protecting the plover by killing the raccoons. Outraged citizens picketed the Federal property where the trapping and killing was taking place in protest of another contract in 2010.

DEATH CHAMBER UNCOVERED AT PENNEKAMP PARK
An undercover investigator, acting on tips, located and photographed a gas chamber used to kill trapped animals captured in traps set by the park service. Wildlife and domestics were lured into the traps with tasty treats and summarily killed in the death chamber located in a secluded building on the grounds of Pennekamp. There is evidence that Anne Morkill, Key Deer Refuge manager may have had a connection to this atrocity. WSVN channel 7 did a report covering this discovery.
