CANDY GIRL

photo coming soon

Candy Girl was a very special raccoon.   From the time she was little she always took things in her stride.  She always seemed to know what she wanted and wasn't easily put off of her goals.  She loved living in the condo, and even given every opportunity to be released, she just refused.  When Lazy Boy recliners used raccoons in their advertising, they must have had Candy Girl in mind.

When Candy Girl wasn't lounging on the shelf, her second favorite place was in a big plastic 55 gallon barrel we recovered from the Gulf Stream one day while fishing.  It was and still is, a favorite place to sleep by almost all of the raccoons in the condo.  In fact, on particularly cold nights most of them would pile in there to sleep.  Undoubtedly, Candy Girl would be in the choicest spot.

Candy Girl was a Key West raccoon, so she was very blonde with coarse hair.  She had a dish-shaped snout/forehead, and a very light mask.  And most of all, Candy Girl loved to be scratched and petted.  She loved being talked to as well.  Next to being scratched and petted, Candy Girl loved to eat so we had to watch her diet a little.  But most of all, she was a sweetie.  In fact, that is how she got her name.

Unfortunately Candy Girl passed away as a result of the fly swarms that brought distemper to the Keys.  She is greatly missed.
