and Louise.
Thelma and Louise were twin girls whose mom had been killed. The homeowners had no idea that there was a nursery in their attic until the two girls tumbled out of the gutter from under the opening in the roof and landed right in the rock garden. Despite the quick actions of the homeowners and our interventions, there was little to be done for Louise, as she had struck her head on a rock when she fell. She suffered severe head trauma and passed away very quickly. Thelma missed all the rocks in her fall and survived.
Thelma was a very special raccoon because she had more than her share of difficulties in her life, but her spirit was boundless. She endured the loss of her mom and sister, a horrible fall, and a case of distemper, which left her rear legs diminished. In spite of all of this, Thelma was a leader. Thelma was determined. She never let any of this get her down or fail to accomplish what she wanted out of life.
Unlike Candy Girl who wanted a condo life, Thelma was not content in the condo. She wanted to live free, so in spite of her handicap, she walked out of the condo into the woods. Life is full of surprises and Thelma would return every day at dinner time for her meal and a good scratch. She would sniff all of her friends and greet the dogs. Once, she took our tiny poodle puppy off for an adventure in the woods for the day. We were frantic. Searching everywhere, we finally had to quit the search because it was feeding time in the condo. And, wouldn't you know it, out of the woods right on time, walked Thelma and her little charge. Neither the worse for their adventure.
For years Thelma lived near us, and then one day when she would have been about 10, she just never showed up again. I know she has crossed the Rainbow Bridge and is whole and healthy once again. She had earned her angel wings.
